An unforgettable day in Kamakura, between temples, nature and sunset
I had the pleasure of accompanying a charming French family for a seven hour guided tour in Kamakura. Located only fifty minutes from Tokyo, this coastal city is one of the most appreciated destinations in the Kanto region for its Zen temples, its historical shrines and its maritime coastlines. From the very first moments, under a deep blue sky, the day promised to be exceptional.

Our journey began in the peaceful alleys of the Nikaido district. Here, the atmosphere becomes more intimate and authentic, with the scent of old wood, vibrant moss and a silence punctuated by birdsong. We explored several temples and shrines hidden in the greenery, each revealing a unique aspect of Japanese spirituality. This immersion in traditional Kamakura immediately transported my visitors far from the urban hustle.
One of the highlights of the visit was our break in a Zen temple, where we enjoyed a matcha tea prepared with delicate care. Facing a perfectly maintained Zen garden, we took the time to breathe, to listen to the murmur of the water and to savour this suspended moment. A true invitation to mindfulness and disconnection in the very heart of Kamakura.
The visit continued toward Hase and its unmissable Great Buddha, the emblematic symbol of the city. The lively streets, small traditional shops and friendly atmosphere allowed the family to discover another side of Kamakura, more vibrant and warm. We then boarded the Enoden train, famous for its retro charm and breathtaking views of the ocean, a ride always appreciated by visitors.
At the end of the afternoon, we reached Shichirigahama beach to witness a spectacle one never grows tired of. The sun gently settled over the bay, enveloping the landscape in a golden light. In the distance, Enoshima Island stood out clearly, while the silhouette of Mount Fuji appeared like a painted scene, floating in a light mist. A magical moment that we savoured for a long time. This day in Kamakura was much more than a simple tourist circuit. It was a true human and cultural experience, punctuated by discovery, curiosity and the beauty of the landscapes. Thanks to the photos taken by me throughout the visit, the family will leave with precious memories to contemplate and to share. Kamakura definitely has this unique power to leave a mark on the mind and touch the hearts of travellers.
